Of Cheektowaga, NY, May 21, 2016. Beloved husband of Joan Griffin; loving father Jenny (Karl) Walker and Chris (Michelle) Griffin; cherished grandfather of five; dearest brother of Mick (Susan) Griffin; also survived by relatives and friends. The family will be present on Friday 5-7PM at the (Hamburg Chapel) of the JOHN J. KACZOR FUNERAL HOME, INC. 5453 Southwestern Blvd. (Corner of Rogers Rd. 646-5555) where a Memorial Service and Military Honors will follow at 7PM. Mr. Griffin was an Army veteran.

The Reverend Walter B. Barger was joyously received into the Eternal Church Triumphant on Sunday, March 11, 2012. He was a strong representative of the ministry of Jesus Christ and the Good News of the Gospel.

We knew him first and foremost as friend, and he never missed an opportunity for a friendly chat. He was a man interested in people and their concerns, and their concerns soon became his concern. Walt had a strong yet tender pastoral presence.

We knew him and Jeanne, his wife of 64 years, as dear friends, and also as active residents of Silver Lake Institute. Many will long associate him with the Annual Memorial Service which he passionately planned and executed each July in Epworth Hall.

Some knew him as their pastor, others knew him as their District Superintendent (Olean) while yet others knew him as Associate Conference Director. He was able to impart his wisdom to any who sought advice or answers in a gracious and accepting way which drew him profound respect.

Walter obtained his Master of Divinity degree from Colgate Rochester Divinity School (NY), where he and Jeanne were first drawn to the Genesee Valley and Finger Lakes region.

In addition to Jeanne, Walt is survived by his son, Bryan, his daughter in law, Dianne, and his three precious grandchildren, Katie, Amy and John. Also survived by two sisters and a brother in law, Walt and Jeanne’s oldest child, Brenda Jeanne Barger died in 1973.

Services were held at Trinity United Methodist Church in Buchanan, VA on Saturday, March 17 at 1 pm. Interment was private. A memorial service will also be held in Memphis.

We ask that you join with us in holding Jeanne Barger and her family in your thoughts, your prayers, and in your hearts as they and we continue to remember and celebrate the rich life of our dear friend, Walter. His Silver Lake family will dearly miss him.

Fillmore -- Wilma Jeanne Steadman Sylor of 11031 Dugway Road, died Monday, June 9, 2014 in Olean General Hospital. She was born on August 6, 1926 in the Town of Allen, a daughter of the late Clarence Steadman and Eleanor Ross. On December 24, 1945 in Starke, FL she married Norbert Sylor who survives.
She was a graduate of Fillmore Central School and a member of Fillmore American Legion Auxiliary, the Short Tract United Methodist Church, the Wide Awake Library Club, and Gideon’s International Allegany Camp Auxiliary.

For many years she was the 4-H leader in Fillmore and Program aid in Wyoming County for many years. Wilma also taught cake decorating, candy making, knitting and sewing. In 1988 she retired as kitchen manager at Camp Asbury after 19 years.

Surviving in addition to her husband are four daughters, Claudia (Joe) Honsberger of Goodyear, AZ, Carolyn (Thomas) Wrinn of Hamburg, Audrey (Gerard) Jurczynski of Schenectady, Kathleen Randall of Broad Brook, CT, ten grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, three sisters, Dorothea Somogyi of Ulysses. Pa., Patricia (Carl) Holmes of Cuba, Althea Martin of Delevan and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by three sisters, Ruth E. Wendland, Marjorie Kozlowski, and Virginia Steadman.

Family and friends may gather from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Friday, June 13, 2014 at the Kopler-Williams Funeral Home, 21 North Genesee Street, Fillmore. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 14, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the Epworth Hall at Silver Lake Institute. Rev. James Stevens, pastor of Dansville United Methodist Church, will officiate. A gathering for fellowship will follow the service in the Koinonia Inn at Asbury Camp. Burial will be in Short Tract Cemetery, Short Tract.

In Loving Memory

MICHAEL J. SMALL of Clarence Center, NY, died February 21, 2014. Michael was the beloved husband of Erin L. (nee Bigler); dearest father of Jordan Bigler and Aubrey Small; son of John Small and Muriel (nee Wright); brother of Jeffrey (Kathy) and Jennifer (Rev. Timothy) Gleason; son-in-law of Richard and Bernadette Bigler; also survived by aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Memorial Service will be held at a later date from the Kenmore United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his memory may be given to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

(2/21/14) We lost our beloved Mike about an hour ago. He developed septicemia and his heart rate got out of control. They told us if we kept him on life support he would end up in a nursing home for the rest of his life on a ventilator; There were 18 people there when he passed, and we got to hold his hand. Our lives will never be the same again. You are not supposed to outlive your child. --Jack.
